Accessibility QA Engineer
Ally is seeking a passionate Accessibility QA Engineer who is committed to creating inclusive digital experiences. You will help champion a Shift Left accessibility culture by ensuring accessibility is embedded throughout design, development, and quality assurance. This role combines expert manual accessibility testing, automated validation, and traditional QA to deliver exceptional digital experiences that meet the highest accessibility standards.

Responsibilities
- Create and execute accessibility test plans and test cases for web and mobile applications.
- Perform comprehensive manual accessibility testing using assistive technologies including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, and other adaptive technologies.
- Perform automated accessibility validation using tools such as Axe-core, Pa11y, WAVE, Lighthouse, and Accessibility Insights.
- Validate accessibility against WCAG 2.2 AA and client-specific compliance requirements.
- Review design files and developer implementations for accessibility throughout the development lifecycle.
- Document accessibility issues with clear reproduction steps, root-cause analysis, and remediation recommendations.
- Contribute to the creation of high-quality VPATs and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs).
- Plan and execute functional, usability, regression, cross-browser, and responsive testing.
- Create and review test plans and test cases.
- Collaborate closely with Designers, Developers, and Project Managers to integrate accessibility throughout the SDLC.
- Verify remediation efforts and participate in final accessibility certification and release validation.
- Continuously develop expertise in accessibility standards, assistive technologies, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance with a strong focus on digital accessibility.
- Strong knowledge of WCAG guidelines, Section 508, ADA, and EN 301 549.
- Experience testing modern web applications, dynamic interfaces, and responsive websites.
- Proficiency with assistive technologies including screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack), screen magnification software, keyboard/alternative input mechanisms, and speech recognition tools.
- Experience with accessibility testing tools including axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, Accessibility Insights, and Pa11y.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ARIA, the DOM, Git, and responsive web design to effectively communicate remediation guidance.
- Familiarity with Figma and modern design workflows.
- Familiarity with Git and version control.
- Good understanding of the DOM and browser rendering processes.
Bonus Skills
- IAAP CPACC or WAS certification or DHS Trusted Tester certification.
- ISTQB or similar certification.
- Experience testing native mobile applications.
- Startup or agency experience.
